Through generous grants from the Charlotte E. Flatley Gift Fund and the Yawkey Foundation, Bethany Health Care Center has purchased new furniture, including recliners, dressers, bedside nightstands, and wardrobes in resident rooms throughout the facility.
Jim Argir, Bethany’s Executive Director, shared, “Transitioning to a nursing home can be a difficult and emotional life event for an elderly person. Several factors affect a person’s sense of ‘home’ in a long-term care environment. The comfort and personalization of one’s bedroom are critical and can profoundly impact that feeling of being ‘at home’. Focusing on well-functioning and aesthetically pleasing furniture forms the basis for a homelike atmosphere in a resident’s room.”
“The new bedside nightstands, desks, and dressers we were able to purchase allow residents to display their personal photos and mementos in addition to storing favorite clothing and other personally meaningful items. Lockable drawers help seniors maintain a sense of personal space and control over precious belongings that connect them to their life experiences and loved ones. And the new comfortable recliners provide a cozy place for residents to relax and enjoy a favorite book or just take a nap!”
Bethany Health Care Center is tremendously grateful to the Yawkey Foundation and the Charlotte E. Flatley Gift Fund for their steadfast commitment to Bethany residents and the generous donations that made this furniture update possible.
